Landing at King Abdulaziz International Airport and trying to work out how to reach your hotel is one of those small problems that feels much bigger at 2am with luggage and a phone on 4% battery.

This guide covers what a taxi from Jeddah airport to the city centre actually costs, how long the drive takes, where drivers meet you at each terminal, and the mistakes that cost travellers money on arrival.

How much is a taxi from Jeddah airport to the city?

Here are our fixed fares for the airport-to-city run. These are the full prices — not a starting rate, not a per-kilometre estimate.

Vehicle Passengers Luggage Airport → city hotel
Toyota Camry 4 3 bags SAR 180
Hyundai Staria 7 10 bags SAR 250
GMC Yukon XL 7 8 bags SAR 300

The Camry suits solo travellers, couples and small families with normal luggage. The Staria is the one most families end up wanting — it carries ten bags, which matters far more than seat count when everyone has a large suitcase plus hand luggage.

Returning to the airport is cheaper

Vehicle City hotel → airport
Toyota Camry SAR 150
Hyundai Staria SAR 180
GMC Yukon XL SAR 250

Airport pickups cost more than drop-offs everywhere in the world, and Jeddah is no exception. The driver waits for your flight, pays airport access charges, and often sits through delays. A scheduled departure has none of that.

If you know your return flight when you book your arrival, ask for both legs at once.

How long does the journey take?

Typical journey time: 30 to 45 minutes.

King Abdulaziz International Airport sits roughly 19 km north of central Jeddah. The drive down Madinah Road or the Corniche route is straightforward, but the time varies more than the distance suggests:

  • Early morning (5am–7am): 25–30 minutes. Clear roads.
  • Mid-morning to afternoon: 30–40 minutes.
  • Evening peak (4pm–7pm): 45–60 minutes. Madinah Road backs up badly.
  • After 10pm: 25–35 minutes.

Add ten minutes if you are heading to Al Balad or the southern districts rather than the Corniche hotel strip.

One thing worth knowing: the journey time clock does not start when you land. Between taxiing, immigration and baggage reclaim, allow 45–90 minutes from touchdown to actually walking out of arrivals — longer during Hajj and Ramadan season when the airport is at capacity.

Where does the driver meet you?

King Abdulaziz International Airport has separate terminals, and turning up at the wrong one is the single most common arrival mistake.

Terminal 1 handles most international arrivals, including Saudia and the majority of foreign carriers. Drivers meet passengers in the arrivals hall with a name board.

The Hajj and Umrah Terminal operates seasonally and sits separately from the main complex. If your ticket says Hajj Terminal, tell us when booking — it is a different pickup point entirely.

The North Terminal handles some domestic and regional services.

When you book with us, send your flight number. We track the arrival, so if you land ninety minutes late your driver is still there and the price does not change.

Taxi, Uber or the airport rank?

Three realistic options, and the right one depends on your situation.

Pre-booked taxi. Fixed price agreed before you travel, driver confirmed in advance, meets you inside arrivals. Best for: late-night arrivals, families with luggage, first visits to Jeddah, anyone who does not want to negotiate after a long flight.

Ride-hailing apps. Uber and Careem both operate at the airport. Works well if you have a local SIM or reliable roaming, arrive during normal hours, and travel light. The catch: surge pricing during peak arrival banks, and pickup points that move around the terminal forecourt. You also need working data before you can book anything, which is exactly what many arriving travellers do not have.

Airport taxi rank. Available outside arrivals. Prices vary and some drivers will quote well above the going rate to arriving foreigners. If you use the rank, agree the fare before you get in.

We are not going to pretend the apps are bad — for a daytime arrival with hand luggage and a working phone, they are fine and often cheaper. The case for pre-booking is strongest when something can go wrong: a delayed flight, a family of six, a 3am landing, or no data connection.

What affects the price

Our fares are fixed, but here is what changes the number:

Vehicle size. Driven by luggage more than passengers. Four people with four large suitcases need a Staria, not a Camry.

Destination district. The fares above cover central Jeddah hotels — the Corniche, Al Hamra, Ar Rawdah, the business district. Obhur, Al Balad and the far south are quoted separately.

Direction. Arrivals cost more than departures, as covered above.

Extra stops. A stop on the way is usually fine, just mention it when booking so the quote reflects it.

What does not change the price: traffic, flight delays, time of day, or how many bags you actually turn up with versus how many you said. The quote is the quote.

How to book

Send us three things on WhatsApp:

  1. Your flight number and arrival date
  2. Your hotel name or district
  3. Number of passengers and bags

We reply with a fixed price and confirm the vehicle. Pay the driver on arrival, cash or card. No deposit, no prepayment, no booking fee.
