Ask five people what a taxi costs in Jeddah and you will get five answers. Meters, apps, street taxis and pre-booked cars all price differently, and none of them publish a straight list.
So here is one. Every fare below is a fixed price for the whole vehicle, not per person, and not a starting rate that grows in traffic.
Quick answer
For the most common journeys in a Toyota Camry, the standard sedan:
- Jeddah airport to a city hotel: SAR 180
- City hotel back to the airport: SAR 150
- Jeddah airport to Makkah: SAR 250
- Jeddah to Taif and return: SAR 700
Larger vehicles cost more. The full breakdown follows.
What changes the taxi fare in Jeddah
Before the tables, the four things that actually move the price:
Vehicle size. This is the big one, and it is driven by luggage more than by passenger count. Four people travelling light fit a Camry. Four people with four large suitcases do not.
Direction of travel. Airport pickups cost more than airport drop-offs, everywhere. The driver waits for your flight, absorbs delays and pays airport access charges. A scheduled departure carries none of that risk.
Distance and destination. City fares cover central Jeddah. Obhur, Al Balad and the far southern districts are quoted separately.
Booking method. A pre-agreed fixed price and a metered street taxi are different products. One is predictable; the other depends on traffic and, sometimes, on how new you look to the city.
What does not change our fares: traffic, time of day, flight delays, or peak season.
Airport transfer fares
The most-searched journeys in Jeddah, in all three vehicle classes.
| Route | Camry | Staria | GMC Yukon XL |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jeddah airport → Jeddah hotel | SAR 180 | SAR 250 | SAR 300 |
| Jeddah hotel → Jeddah airport | SAR 150 | SAR 180 | SAR 250 |
| Jeddah airport → Makkah hotel | SAR 250 | SAR 300 | SAR 400 |
| Makkah hotel → Jeddah airport | SAR 200 | SAR 280 | SAR 400 |
| Madinah airport → Madinah hotel | SAR 150 | SAR 200 | SAR 300 |
| Madinah hotel → Madinah airport | SAR 100 | SAR 250 | SAR 250 |
Note how much cheaper the return legs are. If you know both your arrival and departure dates when booking, ask for the pair together.
Intercity fares
Longer routes between cities, priced for the whole vehicle.
| Route | Camry | Staria | GMC Yukon XL |
|---|---|---|---|
| Jeddah airport → Madinah hotel | SAR 500 | SAR 550 | SAR 900 |
| Makkah hotel → Madinah hotel | SAR 450 | see note | SAR 800 |
| Madinah hotel → Makkah hotel | SAR 500 | SAR 500 | SAR 800 |
| Jeddah → Taif and return | SAR 700 | SAR 800 | SAR 1,500 |
The Jeddah to Taif fare is a return trip with waiting time included, not a one-way price. It is the standard way people do that journey — up the escarpment, a few hours in the cooler air, back the same day.
Which vehicle should you book?
| Vehicle | Seats | Bags | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Toyota Camry | 4 | 3 | Solo travellers, couples, small families with normal luggage |
| Hyundai Staria | 7 | 10 | Families and groups with heavy luggage — the most bag capacity of any vehicle |
| GMC Yukon XL | 7 | 8 | Groups wanting maximum comfort and space on longer journeys |
The Staria is the one most families end up needing. Seven seats sounds like the deciding factor, but ten bags is usually the reason. A family of five flying in from abroad routinely has five checked bags plus hand luggage, and that will not fit in a sedan no matter how the seats work out.
If you are unsure, send us your passenger and bag count and we will tell you which car fits. There is no advantage to us in putting you in something too small and having the problem appear at the kerb.
Taxi fares versus Uber and Careem in Jeddah
Both apps operate across Jeddah and both work well in the right circumstances. An honest comparison:
Apps are usually cheaper for short city hops during normal hours — a ten-minute ride to a restaurant, a run across town at midday.
Apps get expensive during surge — arrival banks at the airport, Friday evenings, and the hour after major events. A SAR 40 ride becomes SAR 90 with no warning.
Apps need data. You cannot book one without a working connection, which is exactly what you may not have in the first hour after landing.
Apps do not really do scheduled bookings. You can request a ride in advance, but nobody is actually assigned until shortly before. For a 4am flight, that is a meaningfully different product from a driver who has confirmed the night before.
The realistic split: use the apps for spontaneous city rides, use a pre-booked taxi for airport runs, early departures, group travel and anything where being stranded would genuinely ruin your day.
Hourly hire and half-day rates
For meetings across the city, shopping trips or sightseeing, hourly hire usually beats booking separate rides. The driver waits between stops, your bags stay in the car, and you are not renegotiating a price four times in a day.
Rates depend on vehicle and duration — message us with your rough itinerary and we will quote a flat figure for the block.
How to avoid overpaying
Four practical habits, useful whoever you book with:
Agree the price before you get in. This is the whole game. A fare agreed in writing cannot be revised at the destination.
Know the rough number. The tables above exist so you can recognise a bad quote. A sedan from the airport to a Corniche hotel should be in the region of SAR 180, not SAR 400.
Say your bag count honestly at booking. Under-declaring gets you a car that does not fit, and the fix costs more than booking correctly would have.
Book airport pickups in advance. Arrival is the moment you have least leverage — tired, unfamiliar, sometimes without data. It is the worst possible time to start negotiating.
Booking and payment
Send your pickup point, destination, date, time and passenger and bag count. We reply with a fixed price and confirm the vehicle.
Pay the driver at the end of the journey, cash or card. No deposit, no prepayment, no booking fee. The quoted price is the final price.
Frequently asked questions
How much is a taxi in Jeddah?
From SAR 150 for a city-to-airport transfer in a Toyota Camry. Airport pickups to central Jeddah are SAR 180. Larger vehicles and longer routes cost more — see the tables above.
Are Jeddah taxi fares fixed or metered?
Street taxis may use a meter or quote on the spot. Our fares are fixed and agreed before you travel, so traffic and delays do not change what you pay.
How much is a taxi from Jeddah to Makkah?
SAR 250 in a Camry, SAR 300 in a Hyundai Staria, SAR 400 in a GMC Yukon XL.
Is Uber cheaper than a taxi in Jeddah?
Often, for short city rides in normal conditions. Less so during surge pricing, and it does not cover scheduled airport pickups well.
Can I pay by card?
Yes. Cash or card, paid directly to the driver at the end of the journey.
Do prices change during Ramadan or Hajj season?
Our quoted fares do not. Book further ahead during peak periods, as vehicles are in short supply.
